CAPÍTULO 26 - DE OCA A OCA ---- CHAPTER 26 - FROM SQUARE TO SQUARE

 

Aquella tarde, al salir del cine, Claire se mostraba triste. Cuando sus hijos le preguntaban qué le pasaba, su respuesta fue simple y contundente:

─Vamos saltando de una guerra a otra sin apenas darnos tiempo a recuperarnos.

─Sí, es cierto, creo que tendremos que dejar de venir al cine. Estos noticiarios nos dejan demasiado mal cuerpo. Ni siquiera la película que venga después, aunque sea una comedia, puede animarnos. Una cosa es escuchar las noticias en la radio o leerlas en la prensa, pero ver las imágenes te hace encontrarte con la realidad de frente y sin adornos ─dijo John. 

 

That evening, as they left the cinema, Claire looked downcast. When her children asked what was wrong, her reply was simple and to the point:

“We just seem to be jumping from one war to the next without even having time to recover.”

“Yes, you're right,” said John. “I think we’ll have to stop coming to the cinema. These newsreels leave us feeling utterly wretched. Not even the film that follows—no matter if it’s a comedy—can lift our spirits. It’s one thing hearing the news on the wireless or reading it in the papers, but seeing the images… that brings you face to face with reality, stripped of any embellishment.”
